We were just a few hours away from our destination, when it began to downpour like crazy! We hit one of the worst storms we've ever driven in. It was wildly scary! The thick fog and rain became absolutely blinding. The wind was intense and throwing debris all over the road. There were cars piled up, and wrecks all around us.
Jared and the boys were driving the MASSIVE U-haul truck {and pulling a trailer, to boot!} Lily and I were alone together, following behind in our SUV.
Tears started to stream down her face when we could no longer see them in front of us.
The fog was so thick that we could hardly see- but a few feet ahead. No lights. No cars. Nothing. I didn't have a cell phone, and of course every worse scenario was going through my head.
Lily cried harder, but all we could do was pray...and pray we did! Luckily we made it through, and so did the boys. For the next 3 hours, we were stranded at a rest stop, while they closed the freeway....
The rain was coming down so hard that we couldn't leave our car. Jared and the boys took a little nap in the U-haul together, while Lily and Isabelle (her doll) climbed up front and cuddled with me.
We missed the boys so much over in the U-haul, that we decided to take a few pictures to let them know how much we loved them over here.
Lily blowing kisses to her favorite boys in the whole world!
We drew a few pictures for the boys on our fogged up windows.
Finally...after 3 hours of waiting, the rain started to ease up a little, but the traffic was so backed up, we couldn't go anywhere.
So, what did we do? We got out to do a little exploring...and puddle jumping.
Lily's BIG splash!
The night turned out to be incredible! We had so much to be grateful for. Plus, splashing in puddles, and getting soaking wet- made everyone laugh and forget the terror that flashed in front of us only hours before.
The lingering fog and misty rain created an awesome glow around all the lights in the rest stop. It was kinda surreal and dream-like.
Just before we hit the road again it was almost midnight. By now, Seth was feeling a little stir-crazy, and wondered why he got stuck in the U-Haul for 3 hours with THIS guy?
We made it to the hotel just after 1:30am. We passed many more ambulances and tow trucks along the way. And felt incredibly blessed that we arrived safely!
What an ADVENTUROUS day!
